WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The Sutton United Foundation Walking Footballers Gave It Their All at the Parkinson’s Tournament

There are some days that are about more than football… and this was definitely one of them.

On 4 April, Sutton United’s Parkinson’s Footballers travelled to the incredible St George’s Park — the home of English football — to compete in the world’s largest Parkinson’s Walking Football tournament.

With 24 teams from across the UK, over 200 players and coaches, and more than 400 supporters, the atmosphere was nothing short of inspiring. From the first whistle to the final match, the day was filled with encouragement, determination, and plenty of unforgettable moments.

More Than a Game ⚽

Hosted at the The Football Association’s National Football Centre, the tournament highlighted something truly special — the power of football to bring people together.

This wasn’t just about results.
It was about:

  • Building confidence
  • Creating connections
  • Sharing joy
  • And proving that Parkinson’s doesn’t define what you can achieve

A Tournament Full of Heart 💪

Competing in the Shield tournament, Sutton United’s squad gave everything.

Every single group game was tightly contested, with fine margins making all the difference:

  • A tough opening match with a real backs-to-the-wall performance
  • A second game that opened up, but again decided by just one goal
  • A third match heartbreakingly lost to a last-minute winner
  • A brilliant 1–0 victory to get on the scoresheet
  • A hard-fought 0–0 draw to close the group stage

Despite finishing fifth in the group, the team’s effort, resilience and teamwork never dropped.

A play-off match followed — another close encounter — ultimately decided by an early goal for the opposition.

But the scorelines only tell part of the story.

The Bigger Picture 🌟

This was a day about pride, courage and showing exactly what this team is made of.

Every player pulled on the shirt and represented Sutton United with heart — and that’s something far bigger than any result.

Event organiser Garen Williams summed it up perfectly:

“Parkinson’s might change the way we move, but it does not change who we are.
I see courage, pride and people who refuse to shrink.
Your world does not have to get smaller. You can still compete. And you can still achieve things you never thought possible.”
